Singapore's future fleet of 12 Alenia Aermacchi M-346 advanced jet trainers will receive comprehensive in-service support from the Italian company and ST Aerospace following the confirmation of two contracts worth a combined €170 million ($241 million).

RI, US air forces conducting joint exercise
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AL) and the United States Air Force (USAF) are organizing a joint exercise at the Abdurahman Saleh air base in Malang district, East Java.
Commander of the air base Vice Marshal A Dwi Putranto who led the opening ceremony of the joint exercise on Monday said the exercise which took place at the taxi way of the air base`s 32 air squadron wing 2 was for the first time held at the air base.
Code-named "Teak Iron - 2011" the 12-day exercise will end on July 8. The exercise is a manifestation of both sides` wish to forge the existing cooperation.

BANGKOK – Thailand's prime minister on Sunday defended his country's decision to quit the U.N.'s World Heritage Convention, saying its committee's consideration of a Cambodian plan to manage a protected temple on Thailand's border would increase tensions.
Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters it didn't make sense for Cambodia to unilaterally offer a plan for managing the Preah Vihear temple site, which is mostly easily accessible through land under dispute by both countries. At least 20 people have died in attacks in the area surrounding the temple since 2008, when the site received World Heritage status over Thailand's objections.

SINGAPORE (AFP) – New recruits to Singapore's military, air force and navy are to get a new standard-issue item of equipment besides their rifle -- the iPad.
The defence ministry said Monday it will be issuing "about 8,000" of the sleek, touch-screen tablet computers -- already wildly popular with the city-state's tech-savvy youth -- to recruits from November.
The ministry said it was also planning to issue the devices to other servicemen next year. The cheapest iPad2 device currently retails in Singapore for Sg$668 ($538).

Indonesia speeds up border negotiations with neighbors
Indonesia will hold several meetings in the coming months to settle unresolved border problems with Malaysia, Vietnam and Timor Leste, an official said here Thursday.
Indonesia has concluded almost all of its territorial sea and continental shelf boundary agreements with its neighbors, with the exception of those with the three countries, as well as with Singapore, the Philippines and the Republic of Palau, director of regional politics and security Rachmat Budiman said.

China delivers military uniforms to Cambodia
PHNOM PENH - The government of China on Thursday delivered 50,000 sets of military uniforms to Cambodia, signaling a closer defense cooperation between the two nations.

Singapore on Monday urged China to be more open about the extent of its territorial claims in the South China Sea, saying Beijing’s ambiguity was causing international concern.

Philippines Downplays China Naval Drills
MANILA - The Philippine military on June 18 sought to downplay the significance of recent Chinese naval exercises in the South China Sea, amid mounting tensions over territorial disputes in the area.
The Philippine Navy itself would conduct 11 days of joint exercises with its U.S. counterpart from June 28, Philippine armed forces spokesman Commodore Miguel Jose Rodriguez noted, citing a previously announced drill.
