ST Engineering, Singapore yesterday launched its latest design on Brunei's soil as the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition 2011 entered its second day of operations.
Witnessed by other trade exhibitors, visitors and senior officers of the country's Ministry of Defence, the parent company of developers ST Kinetics took the opportunity to showcase their defence transport vehicle named the Terrex just outside the Bridex Hall.
The 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle, standing at a height of 2.64m, has a maximum gross weight of 26,000 kilogrammes and has the capacity to seat 13 personnel.
Its maximum road speed is a roaring 105km/h and has, in total, seven gears including six drives forward and one for reverse powered by the Caterpillar C9, six-cylinder 40-stroke diesel turbo-charged, 450hp (336kW) engine and has the capability to travel in water and ascend a maximum of 60 per cent gradient, climb a 0.6-metre vertical wall and dip into two-metre trenches.
Defence capabilities include the Remote Control Weapon Station mounted on its roof that has a stabilised and video track for better accuracy even on the move. Present during the launching was Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence (Administration and Finance).
